We just had a couple nights of impressive (for us in the Puget Sound region) thunder and lightning.

Though it was stressful worrying about the wind and lightning strikes adding to our already scary fire outbreaks, I still enjoyed the show. It’s not often we get such a display at night.

The lightning really lit up our sky! Even though it sounded pretty far away (it took over a minute for some thunderclaps to reach my ears after a flash), the patchy cloud cover in the darkness seemed to reflect and intensify a lot of light. Ranging from subtle ambient grey sky-lighteners to actual BOLTS, it was a real treat to witness the variety and rumblings from a safe distance.

I didn’t try to capture fancy photos or videos. Fortunately, there are lots of people posting them up online from more places than our own backyard.

There might be some AI generated junk in there (I saw at least one), but for the most part it’s a nice collection of different people’s experiences and views of the storm from all around the sound in photos and videos.

We definitely needed the rain. It wasn’t a lot, but it was better than nothing. The damp still-warm ground made it feel so muggy stepping out the morning after, though, even on the shady side of our house.

Will we get some more action this evening? I hear it’s possible …
